Reflections on Chapter 1
1. What is the role that National Technology Stadards play in the successful integration of technology?
Like other national standards, the technology standards provide a framework that students should master with their teachers guidelines. Within the National Technology Standards there are performance indicators for grade ranges that students must know before they are considered technolgy literate. The standards should guide teachers and define concepts, knowledge, and skills for technolgy in education.
2. How can you manage the classroom during technology integration?

ii. Arrange the classroom
iii. find out if the students have home access to computers.
b. Equipment layout
i. enough space to work
ii. group chairs
iii. arrange for the least amount of distraction
c. Manage time
i. limited equipment
ii. define expectations of the assignment before going to the work stations
d. Manage students behavior
i group work provides opportunity for distraction
ii. communicate expectations as well as penalties
iii. avoid time spent waiting in line for computer use
iv. consider using headphones
v. have children sign in to give them a sense of responsibility
vi. have additional supervision
3. What is the connection between learning outcomes and assessment?
The assessment evaluates the learning outcome of the students' mastery of the lesson objectives. By assessing outcomes, a teacher can more appropriately and effectively teach students in a way that will create the better learning outcomes.
4. Describe the characteristics of special learners.
Students will come from a variety of backgrounds and have certain challenges. Some special learners come from poverty, speak different lanuages and have different cultural backgrounds. They may vary in physical abilities, gifted abilities, cognitive abilities, and emotional needs. Challenges affect memory, language and performance. Children with behavior challenges have difficulty paying attention, may be aggressive or withdrawn. Students with cultural differences have different modivations, work styles, eye contact, and response to authority. Children that come from different economic backgrounds may have health issues and do not always have access to technoloy or books.
